AHS Flagstaff Chapter Selects 2020 Undergraduate Mentor Scholar

Max Evans Attended Yavapai College before transferring to NAU in 2015. He graduated from NAU in May with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, focusing on hydrogeology. He supported himself through college with multiple part-time jobs while maintaining a 3.98 GPA. Max was a recipient of the Golden Axe Award, in recognition of his standing in the top one percent of his class.

During college, Max enjoyed a number of opportunities to participate in hydrogeology research. In April 2019 he received an undergraduate research award which funded his research in the Grand Canyon. Using Ground Penetrating Radar, Max surveyed the depth of the alluvium and the depth to groundwater on the alluvial fan of Bright Angel Creek at Phantom Ranch to improve estimates of groundwater pumping as a source of water supply for the park.

Through course work and research, Max has homed his interests in groundwater resources assessment, geophysical tools used for groundwater evaluation, and the environmental impacts and sustainability of groundwater.  Max hopes that the AHS 2020 Undergraduate Mentor Scholarship will provide him with an opportunity to better understand how water resources are developed and managed in real-world settings. He is also looking forward to the AHS networking opportunities.

Congratulations Max!
