Resources for Water Professionals

The following information may be useful to water professionals, students, and others who want to sign up for public meetings aimed at formulating agency rules, regulations, or programs, or who are looking for information on conferences.

Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ)State agency that prevents air, water, and land pollution and ensures cleanups. Users can download permitted facilities, review records, and subscribe to receive meeting notices and hearings
Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR)State agency that manages and regulates the surface water and groundwater resources. Users can subscribe to receive meeting notices on meeting notices, monitor legislative bills, and receive newsletters; download data (well, water levels, permitted recharge projects and volumes, groundwater pumpage, assured water supplies, adjudications, etc.)
Arizona Water Banking Authority (AWBA)Established in 1996 to store the unused portion of Arizona’s annual Colorado River entitlement; firms water supplies for CAP municipal and industrial (M&I) subcontract holders and communities and meets Tribal firming obligations. Users can subscribe to quarterly meeting notices and agenda packages.
Arizona Water Protection Fund (AWPF)Competitive grant program that funds measures to protect water of sufficient quality and quantity to maintain, enhance, and restore rivers, streams, and riparian habitat. Users can subscribe to grant notices, quarterly meeting notices, and agenda packages.
Bureau of Reclamation, Lower Colorado RegionFederal agency that has constructed dams, power plants, and canals in the 17 Western states, including the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. Reclamation is the largest wholesaler of water in the country, bringing water to more than 31 million people, and providing irrigation water for 10 million acres of farmland that produce 60% of the nation’s vegetables and 25% of its fruits and nuts.
Central Arizona Project (CAP)Arizona’s largest resource for renewable water supplies; delivers Colorado River water to Maricopa, Pinal, and Pima counties, serving more than 5 million. Users can subscribe to notifications for monthly board meetings and subcommittees on CAGRD, public policy, finance and power supplies, and Colorado River and recovery plans.
Salt River ProjectA community-based, not-for-profit organization providing affordable water to more than 2 million people in central Arizona. SRP manages seven reservoirs that store water from the Salt and Verde rivers and the East Clear Creek watershed. SRP also utilizes a vast groundwater pumping system that includes 270 high-capacity wells.
Water Infrastructure Finance Authority  of Arizona (WIFA)Administers Arizona’s Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRFs), which finance water and wastewater infrastructure projects.  Users can subscribe to funding notices, meeting notices, and agenda packages.
Water Resources Research Center (WRRC)Research unit of the UA’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and a unit of its Cooperative Extension. Users can subscribe to the Weekly Wave for water announcements, news, brown bag webinars, jobs, and events.
USGS Arizona Water Science CenterFederal agency whose mission is to collect and interpret high quality, impartial scientific information to provide resource managers and the public with the knowledge required to understand and manage the critical water resources of Arizona and the Southwest.
