ISMAR9, the International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge, will be held in Mexico City, June 20–24, 2016. The symposium has attracted a record number of abstracts (140). The preliminary scientific program, including 6 half-day workshops and courses for June 20, is now posted on the ISMAR9 web site.
ISMAR9 is a joint symposium with BSMAR15, the biennial symposium on MAR convened by AHS and the Groundwater Resources Association of California. This will be an outstanding symposium; almost all papers will be in English, and Spanish translation is available thanks to CONAGUA (Mexican Water Commission).
Special technical sessions will include:
- 20 June: Workshops on the development and on global inventory of MAR; case studies on MAR opportunities in Mexico Valley; and courses on aquifer storage and recovery; basin infiltration; and water quality aspects of MAR.
- 21 June: Plenary session
- 22 June: Keynote: “Climatic variations and uncertainties in Groundwater Management and the role of MAR” by William M. Alley. The prestigious Herman Bouwer award will be presented by AHS.
- 23 June: Special session on “Groundwater Management and Recharge Policy.”
- 24 June: Technical excursion includes Atotonilco wastewater management and land subsidence or a visit to ancient Teotihuacan Pyramids.
