Three students who served as interns for the City of Flagstaff’s Water Services group were awarded NAU’s Gold Axe award for fall 2018. This honor is bestowed upon 25 seniors in each graduating class based on academic performance, leadership, and community service. The interns, Daniel’le DeVoss, Mellisa Yin, and Laura Garcia, are environmental engineering majors who are interested in pursuing careers in water resources. Their work at the City contributed to an enhanced quality of life for the Flagstaff community, while promoting STEM understanding and environmental consciousness. They are also founding members of the NAU Society of Women Engineers.
Flagstaff Water Services partners with NAU to promote working internship opportunities, allowing students to gain valuable career experience. Daniel’le, Mellisa, and Laura felt that their work at Water Services helped to distinguish them for the Gold Axe award.
