Date: Saturday, May 19
Time: Meet at 4 PM, talks start at 5 PM
RSVP: Clare Stielstra
We’ll meet at the Marshall Lake boat ramp parking lot, where Richard Hereford and Allen Haden will give talks about climate change effects on Mormon Lake and the Marshall Lake wetlands enhancement assessment, respectively.
This event is a potluck. The Chapter will provide bratwurst and buns. Please bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share and the beverage of your choice. Also bring a camp chair. Folks are welcome to stay and camp at an adjacent campsite. We will have someone go out earlier in the week to snag a site and hold it with a tent or camper. (There are no campsite reservations at Marshall Lake; sites are on a first-come/first-serve basis.)
Please RSVP so we know how many bratwursts to cook — and provide a cell phone number where we can text you in case the forest closes due to wildfire risk or (if we are so lucky) it rains. In case of rain or forest closure, we will convene at The McMillan in downtown Flagstaff.
Be advised the Coconino National Forest is in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions — no open campfires or charcoal grills, and no smoking except inside a vehicle.
Directions to AHS Tailgating at Marshall Lake
- Go 9.5 miles southeast of Flagstaff on Lake Mary Road.
- After you pass Lower Lake Mary, but before you get to Upper Lake Mary, turn left onto Forest Road 128. The road has a sign for the U.S. Naval Observatory (NPOI Station).
- This paved road will switchback once. Where the paved road makes a right angle turn to the right, continue forward through cattle guard onto the dirt road (FR128).
- Drive about 1 mile. Look for a parking area on the left adjacent to the lake. (When you pull into the parking lot you will see a little boat ramp and there will be a gorgeous view of the San Francisco Peaks.)
