The Tucson Chapter of the Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS) is pleased to announce their 2020 AHS Undergraduate Mentor Scholar. Our warmest congratulations go to Danielle Rehwoldt.
Danielle is a senior at the University of Arizona who is pursuing her B.S. in Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, with an emphasis in environmental hydrology. She has been on the Dean’s List for all three years at the U of A, and she is currently on the Dean’s List with distinction. She is applying for the Accelerated Master’s Program in Hydrology, which allows her to take both undergraduate and graduate courses simultaneously during her senior year.
Danielle has interned with Watershed Management Group as well as the US Geological Survey at the Arizona Water Science Center. She is also a College of Science Ambassador for the Hydrology and Atmospheric Science Program at the U of A, where she helps guide prospective students by describing the expectations of a hydrology degree and the potential career opportunities for the degree. Danielle also participated in the highly sought-after National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Undergraduate Leadership Workshop in Boulder, Colorado last summer.
Danielle is interested in expanding her skill set in all aspects of hydrology, and she is eager to use the mentor scholarship opportunity to further that goal. Danielle will attend a minimum of four water-related meetings and will prepare a summary of those meetings in collaboration with a mentor. She will also submit a short article to the AHS monthly newsletter describing her school experience in 2020, including how COVID-19 affected her school year.
Danielle will receive the Tucson Chapter’s 2020 AHS Mentor Scholarship Award and plaque in a more formal ceremony to be held in Phoenix/Tempe in October during the 17th Biennial Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge (BSMAR17), which will be held from October 7-9, 2020. The presentation could also occur at a monthly Tucson chapter meeting if COVID-19 prevents large gatherings at BSMAR17.
