Field schoolers from all around Arizona convened at Jacob’s Lake, 25 strong, on June 17. From that point forward over the next three days, the itinerary was nothing short of spectacular. The trip was very well planned by field trip guides, Dr. Abe Springer and Alex Wood, with nicely detailed maps provided by John Noll. The trip included stops at many springs and karst features within the interior of the plateau with equal time spent spotting springs and geology across canyon views. The thoughtfully and carefully researched hydrology and groundwater systems were pondered with great interest by the geologists and non-geologists alike. A grand finale of dinner at the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, a sunset hike, and libations under the night sky, complete with professional astronomers, topped off the trip.
The Flagstaff Chapter extends our deepest gratitude to our sponsors, including the AHS Foundation, Verde Brewing Company, Woodson Engineering, and the Coconino Plateau Watershed Partnership. The generosity of our sponsors afforded full registration fees for seven student attendees. A truly wonderful time together ended with no shortage of ideas for more trips! Stay tuned for the next Flagstaff Chapter adventure.
