AHS congratulates Marvin Glotfelty of Clear Creek Associates, the latest recipient of our Lifetime Achievement Award (LAA). The award was presented to him at this year’s symposium in Phoenix.
Marvin has 36 years of experience of hydrology and water well projects in Arizona and is nationally known in the water industry. Mr. Glotfelty serves on the Northern Arizona University Geology Department Advisory Council and the Northern Arizona University College of Engineering and Natural Sciences Advisory Council. He has been the Technical Director for the Arizona Water Well Association since 1990 and on their Legislative Committee from 1993 to present. He is a Registered Geologist.
His contributions have ranged from extending the knowledge of Arizona hydrogeology, well design, well rehabilitation, and developing the tools for life cycle well asset management. He is the quintessential person in Arizona when people need guidance and expertise with water wells (aka “The Well Master”). Marvin has an extensive list of publications and presentations in Arizona on well economics and was the leader in advancing stainless steel as the material of choice for new well designs over low carbon steel. In 1995, Mr. Glotfelty received the City of Phoenix Mayor’s Environmental Award for his work with well rehabilitation for municipal wells to improve water quality. Marvin assisted the City of Phoenix in obtaining NGWA’s Outstanding Groundwater Supply Project Award for its Aquifer Storage and Recovery Wells in 2013. An example of a recent workshop in Arizona is AHS Symposium Workshop, “Well Assessment Tools and Techniques” on 9/19/2018.
Nationally recognized, Mr. Glotfelty was the National Ground Water Association’s prestigious McEllhiney Lecturer in 2012. This position is awarded yearly by NGWA for an individual advancing water well technology and funds a lecture tour across the U.S. and internationally for the individual to share their knowledge. Marvin’s resume lists 25 publications (Groundwater, Water Well Journal, International Ground Water Technology), 3 books (The Art of Wells, Illustrated Glossary of Driller’s Terms, and contributor to Groundwater & Wells, 3rd Ed.), 50 workshop presentations, and 90 technical presentations.
The LAA honors individuals who have contributed to AHS or to the science of hydrology within Arizona and/or who have received national recognition for their contributions in the field. The award consists of a personal recognition plaque, a rotating plaque listing all recipients, and a $500 check to an Arizona educational organization of the recipient’s choice. Mr. Glotfelty chose the AHS Foundation as his charity of choice and agreed to match the award with $500 of his own. AHS has awarded fifteen LAAs since 1995.
