This past September at our annual symposium, AHS honored Chuck Graf with a Lifetime Achievement Award. As part of the award, LAA winners can donate $500 to the charity of their choice on behalf of AHS.
Chuck chose to donate his award to the ASU Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability. An ASU alumnus himself, Chuck had many opportunities to work with GIOS during his tenure as a hydrologist with ADEQ and as associate director of the Arizona Water Institute. Given this experience, he felt that the organization would be an ideal choice for the award. GIOS will deposit the check to a line item in the budget that directly supports student advancement, specifically in support of opportunities for undergraduate water-related research.
The LAA honors individuals who have contributed to AHS or to the science of hydrology within Arizona and/or to individuals who have received national renown for their contributions in the field. Any AHS member or a nonmember can be nominated. The award consists of a personal recognition plaque, a traveling plaque listing all past recipients, and a $500 check to an Arizona educational organization of the recipient’s choice.
Former LAA winners include Dr. Stan Leake, Don Bills, Nick Melcher, Gail Cordy, Gary Small, Dr. Gray Wilson, Herb Schumann, Dr. Errol Montgomery, Dr. Sol Resnick, Dr. Herman Bouwer, Dr. Eugene Simpson, and Leonard Halpenny.
