Registration is now open for the 2014 Advanced Smartscape course, which begins May 16. Advanced Smartscape Irrigation offers in-depth technical training on irrigation design, installation, and management for water-efficient landscapes in the Sonoran Desert. It is encouraged that registrants have a basic working knowledge of drip and/or sprinkler irrigation systems prior to taking this class. Smartscape is sponsored by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Maricopa County and the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association.
Classes will be held on Fridays, from 1:00-6:00 P.M., May 16th, 23rd, and 30th, 2014. All classes will be held at the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension in Maricopa County, 4341 E. Broadway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85040. Registration fee for the entire course is $85.

Learn through hands on methods for:
- Designing complete irrigation plans
- Wiring an irrigation system
- Calculating friction loss through pipe
- Estimating monthly water budgets
- Choosing the best controller
- Determining irrigation system efficiency
- Diagnosing the source of problems
- Creating irrigation schedules
Over the three Advanced Smartscape sessions, municipal water departments and the irrigation industry will present the latest research-based information regarding sustainable landscaping practices. In a tough economy, such training is valuable to landscaping businesses as competition for customers remains high. Graduates can be included in the Smartscape Certified Professional Online Directory and receive a Certificate of Completion, a Smartscape lapel pin, and two Smartscape vehicle decals.
