WRRC Brown Bag on the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project

Reviving an Urban River

Speaker: Timothy Thomure, Director, Tucson Water
Date/Time: August 28, 12–1:15 PM
Location: Sol Resnick Conference Room, 350 N. Campbell Avenue

In 2016, the City of Tucson initiated a discussion about using reclaimed water to restore perennial flow to a portion of the Santa Cruz River near downtown. This action could support riparian habitat in the urban core, improve long-term water management, and stimulate economic activity. The concept was well received by stakeholders and Tucson Water began the task of bringing this vision to reality. In May 2019, perennial flow will return to the Santa Cruz River near Tucson’s birthplace — and a new era of water management will begin.

This is a preview of the plenary session, “Reimagining Arizona’s Rivers,” at our upcoming 2018 AHS Symposium. Tim Thomure will be one of our panelists.
