The Phoenix Chapter had awarded its 2022 Herman Bouwer Intern Scholarship to Justin Romano, a senior in Geological Sciences at Arizona State University, who will be finishing his undergraduate degree in December 2022.
2022 Herman Bouwer Intern Scholarship Experience

During the summer of 2022, I had the honor of receiving the Herman Bouwer Intern Scholarship Program with The Arizona Hydrological Society. This internship could not have come at a better time, since I was a senior geology student at Arizona State University and needed guidance in my future career.
I cannot stress how incredible this opportunity is for any student interested in the field of hydrology! The program is set up so that you can take the 200 allotted hours and spend them shadowing/working with any company associated with The Arizona Hydrological Society. I had the opportunity every student dreams of, to simply choose a company and spend time learning who they are, how they operate, and the possibilities that are available for my future! Some of the activities I participated in include groundwater modeling, geophysical data collection, watershed modeling, streamflow calculations, E. coli sampling, and lithologic logging.
I am so grateful to everyone who was a part of making this happen and will forever see this opportunity as a pivotal point in my career.
