It’s time to look back at some of the significant events and trends in the world of water that occurred in 2023. The Colorado River remains the major focus, as always. Many developments were positive and hold some promise of agreement and resolution in 2024.
It is important to recall where things stood at the end of 2022. The December meeting of the Colorado River Water Users Association (CRWUA) sold out, for the first time in its history. Some 1300 people showed up to hear about what might happen on the Colorado River in 2023 and beyond, and what can be done to stave off the growing possibilities of system collapse. Mostly what they heard was a consistent refrain of how we all have to work together to conserve water. No one foresaw what was to occur that winter.
